The book I'm most thankful for...

The book I'm most thankful for is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.  Sure I'd read other books before then, but Jane Eyre was required reading in high school at a particularly crappy point in my life.  I'd stopped reading for fun and was just going through the motions for school.  Jane Eyre was the first book that I had to read that I decided was worth reading.  I've read it several times since then and it never fails to disappoint. Now, whenever I'm in a funk, I find a good book.

Give me a few days...

And a bit of inspiration and I'll give you a complete ms.  Been doing tons of work on the ms.  Got almost all of the bugs worked out and now I'm letting it sit for a few days so I can do another pass, hopefully get it polished and ready for my betas.

It's funny how everything just clicks into place.  I sent one of my readers an email letting her know how the ms was progressing and what changes I was still making and wow!  Something clicked in my brain and I knew exactly what I needed to do to get from point A to point B.  Then I did a mad dash to get all my ideas down on paper before they disappeared into the...well, wherever it is that ideas go.  Inserting notes into my ms where I know I need a fix seems to work best for me.  (I always bracket them and put them in a different color so that they are easy to spot and can be found via search. Does anyone else do this?)  Then I print out the doc (poor trees) and go through to make all the corrections.   Now that I've gotten the bulk of the edits under my belt, I feel so much more relaxed.  I don't even feel bad about erasing a few characters.  Hopefully, it's a better ms for it.

How do you edit?  Every had an epiphany that solved your editing problems?

Not much progress

Not much progress in the last couple of weeks on the ms.  I didn't expect much, not with a four month old, a seven year old, and a full-time job, but still, I hoped for more than a few chapters worth of edits.  I'm not beating myself up about it.  The end of the year is still two months away.

In other news, well, there isn't much other news.  But my dog still thinks the baby is a cat, and since she weighs in at about 150lbs, the two must stay separated unless dear hubby is there to supervise.  Sigh.

I like to think of her as my blonde girl (since our other dog is a male black lab).  She is mostly gentle and sweet with a big helping of dumb, but she's very cuious about things that make cat-like sounds.  Very curious.

What I've been up to but didn't blog about:

So it's been over a year since I created the blog.  In that year I got married, got pregnant, gave birth and never once bothered to blog about it.  So either I suck at blogging or I just don't think ordinary, mundane life events are worthy of a few words on paper (or screen).  Okay, I suck at blogging.

What else have I done?  I won a Secret Agent contest over at Miss Snark's First Victim.  Of course that was way back in September, 2010.  Got some great feedback from her readers and from the Secret Agent.  In the end, I didn't land an agent, but I got some great suggestions for revisions from said agent for which I'm extremely appreciative.

My newest bundle of joy is now three months old, and my new goal is to finish the revisions and have a newly revised completed manuscript ready to submit before the end of the year. Wish me luck!
